"CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WEATHER" was how at least one Philadelphia Inquirer article described the Memorial Day Weekend at the shore.  Sunny skies and comfortable temperatures made for an enjoyable weekend for visitors, and a successful weekend for merchants.  Cooler, breezy weather entered on Monday in time for Memorial Day parades and barbecues.      

OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY may soon be a reality on the New Jersey coastline.  Two firms recently made presentations to Cape May County freeholders presenting their ideas for offshore wind turbines designed to generate electricity.  The firms are competing to be the first in the nation to design and build ocean-based wind turbines. A site 15 miles off Atlantic City is being considered. One of the firms, Bluewater Wind, built the five land-based wind turbines currently in use behind Atlantic City.

TOP TEN BEACHES: a three month survey culminated with the naming of New Jersey's Top Ten Beaches.  Wildwood was named the number one beach in the state, while Avalon ranked seventh and Stone Harbor ranked tenth.  Seven of the top ten beaches in the state were in Cape May County.  

AVALON BOROUGH HALL and Senior Center will close for six weeks as heating and cooling work is performed in the building.  Much of the Borough's business will be conducted from temporary quarters at the Public Works facility at 13th Street & Dune Drive.  More details are available at www.avalonboro.org.
