This week's news:
TROLLEY TRAFFIC in Avalon & Stone Harbor may not last beyond
this season due to reduced ridership and rising fuel costs,
unless guaranteed funding is provided to the trolley operators.
With advertising revenues down and fuel prices up by 50% the
trolley service has been squeezed financially. An adult round
trip fare is $2, and saves the hassle and cost of parking in
downtown Stone Harbor or Avalon.
AMERICAN LEGION POST 331,
headquartered in Stone Harbor, was
added to the New Jersey Register of Historic Places. Originally
built as a lifesaving station, the building has been in
continuous use for 113 years. The legion hopes to be recognized
at the national level soon.
"LOST PARADISE, A LIFEGUARD'S TALE"
is a fictional story about a
young lifeguard coming of age, written by Alexander Jackson, a
former Stone Harbor Lifeguard. Jackson wrote the book while in
college, and has reportedly had interest from a movie producer.
The book is available on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.
