This week's news:

AVALON CURFEW: Borough Council has passed an ordinance prohibiting minors from being in public places from midnight until 6am unless at a job, community event, school, or church activity.  "Emergency errands" are also exempted.  The ordinance is designed to prevent minors from loitering outside local stores at night.

THE SHELTER HAVEN site in Stone Harbor will soon be host to the new Shelter Haven Resort offering waterfront dining, swimming pool, and two story suites.  The owner/developer received site plan approval along with the necessary variances.  There was significant support from the public, too.  The new resort will encompass the now-vacant lot at 96th Street and Third Avenue, as well as Henny's restaurant across the street, which will be closed after this season.

STONE HARBOR FARMER'S MARKET can be found at the water tower parking lot every Sunday from 8am to noon through September.  About ten local merchants are offering produce each week.

THE B.L. ENGLAND power plant in Beesely's Point will receive $204 million in upgrades to meet air and water quality rules by 2012.  The 447 megawatt power plant sits alongside the Great Egg Harbor Bay, and is said to be one of the biggest sources of pollution in South Jersey.  The plant was nearly closed before a buyer--Rockland Capital--agreed to purchase it, and install new emissions controls.

Boat Auction, Stone Harbor Marina, Saturday July 26 at 1pm.
