AVALON'S BACK BAYS will be dredged beginning this September. Long Reach and Whale Harbor will be deepened this fall as part of Avalon's ongoing maintenance of its waterways. Individual homeowners living along the waterways can have their slips dredged without securing individual permits.

AVALON BOROUGH HALL is reopening this week after ten weeks of work installing new heating and air conditioning systems. Borough operations will gradually be returned to Borough Hall after being conducted in various temporary sites during the renovation period. Construction continues on Avalon's brand new Public Safety Complex located next to Borough Hall.

STONE HARBOR has decided to support Avalon in its lawsuit against the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The DEP's "State Aid Agreement" must be signed by all shore towns before the state provides funding for beach related projects. Avalon officials objected to the state's requirement to provide "sufficient parking", as well as public restrooms every one-half mile, feeling that current parking and restroom facilities are more than sufficient to meet the needs of beachgoers.

COLD OCEAN: local ocean temperatures have been about 10 degrees below normal for most of the summer, due to offshore winds and ocean currents. Ocean temperatures have been in the low 60s during the past month, as winds have pushed warm surface water offshore, drawing colder water up to the surface.

NEW JERSEY'S TALL SHIP, the AJ Meerwald, will visit Utsch's Marina in Cape May from Friday, August 1 to Sunday, August 31. Afternoon and evening sails will be available daily except Wednesdays. For reservations call 856-785-2060.
